Termination of the Liturgy Director Position

Dear Parishioners,

As we continue to evaluate our parish’s needs and resources, I have made the difficult decision to discontinue the position of Director of Liturgy. This decision was not made lightly but comes as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the responsible stewardship of parish resources and the best alignment of our ministry efforts with our mission. I remain committed to providing beautiful and meaningful liturgies through the dedicated service of our clergy, staff, and volunteers. I am grateful for all who contribute their time and talent to making our worship experiences rich and spiritually uplifting.

Celebration of the Sacred Triduum at St. Patrick Church

This year, the Sacred Triduum—Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil—once again will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church. I understand that this decision may raise questions, and I would like to offer some context to help our parish community understand the reasoning behind it.

Canonical Considerations: Following the merger of our two former parishes, St. Patrick Church was designated as the parish church, while Our Lady of Humility (OLH) was established as a worship site. According to Canon 121 and Canon 515 %1 of the Code of Canon Law; when two or more parishes are merged, the parish retains a single identity, and the designated parish church assumes a central role in sacramental life. Additionally, Canon 536 emphasizes the importance of unity in worship within a parish community. Celebrating the Triduum at St. Patrick aligns with these canonical norms.

Fostering Parish Unity: The Triduum is the most sacred and significant time of the liturgical year, calling all the faithful to come together as one body in Christ. By celebrating these liturgies in one location, we hope to strengthen our identity as one parish family, deepening our bonds as we commemorate the Paschal Mystery—the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ—together.

Liturgical Continuity: The Triduum is celebrated as one continuous liturgy spread over three days. Having all three liturgies in the same location ensures seamless transitions and a cohesive worship experience.

Logistical and Practical Considerations: St. Patrick Church offers more space, better accessibility, and the necessary liturgical infrastructure to accommodate the complexity and solemnity of these celebrations. With greater seating capacity, adequate parking, and necessary resources for sacred music and liturgical ministries, we can provide a more reverent and spiritually enriching experience for all.

I recognize that OLH remains a cherished place of worship for many, and I encourage the faithful to continue participating in liturgies there throughout the year. However, for the Sacred Triduum, I invite and encourage all parishioners to come together at St. Patrick Church to celebrate as one community, united in faith and love.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to grow as a united parish. Let us walk together in faith, especially during this holy season of Lent, as we prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.

In Christ,
Fr. Wojciech Oleksy
